About this project
Vista Parkway is a major collector road carrying more than 6,000 vehicles a day. After a corridor-wide review requested by Town Council, the Town of Erie ran a traffic engineering study in 2024 and did design and budgeting work in 2025. Construction of the first phase started in 2026.
What is being built
- Crosswalks consolidated at intersections. Several mid-block crosswalks were removed; the remaining crosswalks get pedestrian push-button signals.
- Raised medians at Parkdale Circle and Eaton Street. Medians on the roundabout approaches narrow the road, slow traffic and give pedestrians a two-stage crossing.
- Sunset Drive. The crosswalk moves to the north side of the intersection and a raised median replaces the painted one.
- Protected bike lane. Concrete barriers along the bike lane in the five-lane section narrow the travel lanes and move bikes and e-bikes off the pedestrian trails.
- Five lanes to three. Later, the corridor changes to a three-lane layout (like Colliers Parkway) with the outside lanes becoming protected bike lanes.
- Landscaping. Where former crosswalk areas cannot be landscaped (ADA requirements), the Town is coordinating with the Metro District on restoring landscaping where feasible before closeout.
Concrete work continues through winter; asphalt paving and final striping follow once temperatures allow.
2026 street repaving in Vista Ridge
As part of the Town's Street Maintenance Paving Project (Phase 2), crews are edge-milling and overlaying many Vista Ridge streets from Aug 31 through the week of Oct 5, 2026, weather permitting, with partial lane closures from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Town's project page has the street-by-street schedule.
